Importance of birth certificate in India
As I said already, birth certificate should ideally be the first document that an infant is registered to. It acts as a base that can be used as proof for creating all other government documents like ration card, passport etc. It can be later used for background verification also. Background check is a common processor that is generally conducted by employers. How to apply Birth Certificate Online
Most of the states are in progress to launch birth certificate online services till now. However few states have started this digital journey and they have made good progress so far. Follow below procedure to get birth certificate registered against your child.• Download online birth certificate form
• Fill in all the details
• Make sure to attach documents that are asked in the registration form
• Once done, submit it to concerned office (in rural areas, you can submit it to Gram Panchayat Offices and in urban areas you need to submit it with Municipal Corporation offices)
You will get your birth certificate issued within 7 days of the registration.
Birth Certificate Timings and Late Fee
You can submit birth certificate application for free within first 21 days of the birth. After 21 days and up to 1 year you can submit the application form with commencement of late fee. After 1 year you will need written permission from government bodies for birth certificate application.
I have summed up it (timings and late fee) for most of the Indian states. There might be different rules changed with time.
Head of the family or his closest relative or oldest person in the family needs to register the birth application form. in case of hospital deliveries, hospital in charge at that time needs to be present at birth center.
